SERVICES

At St. John's, there are two worship services each week.  Our traditional worship service is held at 9:00 AM in the sanctuary and our contemporary worship service is held at 11:00 AM in the fellowship hall.

What can I expect to happen during worship?
9:00 AM

Our traditional worship service is based on Lutheran liturgical worship and is accompanied primarily by the organ. The four major parts of worship are Gathering, Word, Meal, and Sending. We gather together as a community of faith. We listen to God’s Word through the reading of the Holy Scriptures and listening to the sermon. We share the meal as we celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month. We finish with a Sending Hymn before we are sent back out into the world to serve Jesus in our everyday lives.

11:00 AM

Our contemporary worship service is accompanied by our praise team (guitars, drums, vocalists, etc.). This service is a blend of prayer, Scripture, preaching, sharing our stories, and contemporary Christian music. We share the meal and celebrate the Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month.  Then we are sent back out into the world to serve Jesus in our everyday lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can come to church here?

Everyone is welcome to worship here!  Come, let us praise God together!

Can I/we take communion?

The Lord's Table is open to all baptized Christians.  Taste and see that the Lord is good!

What do Lutherans believe?

Lutherans believe in the Triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.  We believe that all people are sinful and in need of a Savior.  We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead after three days.  We believe that, in the waters of Holy Baptism, we are cleansed of our sins and made children of God.  We believe that in the bread and wine of communion (Jesus' own body and blood) our faith is strengthened and nourished.  More information about what Lutherans believe can be found here.

What should I wear?

We don't have a dress code!  Some folks come in suits and dresses.  Others come in jeans, shorts, T-shirts, etc.

When is worship?

We have two worship services.  Our 9:00 AM service is traditional and our 11:00 AM service is contemporary.  Whichever service you choose, you are welcome here!

Are children welcome?

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” (Matthew 19:14).  Children of all ages are welcome to attend!  There is nothing more lovely than the sound of kids in church!  If a tantrum happens to strike during worship, there are spaces outside of the sanctuary for both kids and parents to take a breath before going back in to service.

Can my children attend Sunday School?

Absolutely!  Kids ages 3 and up are welcome to attend.  Currently Sunday School is held on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month following our 9:00 AM service (so around 10:00 AM).  No need to register your child/ren, just come and follow the noise!

Do I have to become a member?

The short answer is: no.  Come and worship with us and see if this feels like a spiritual "home" for you.  If so, then you can think about becoming a member.  But if you don't want to, you don't have to!

How do I become a member?

Becoming a member involves confessing your faith before the congregation (all pre-printed questions and answers) and...that's it!  If you have not been baptized, you will become a member by being baptized.
